Arable farmland reduction, fresh water scarcity, climate change, growing transport costs and the consumer demand for food security and fresh organic food are on the rise. The global population is rapidly increasing and so is the demand for food, putting more pressure on today´s overexploited farming system.

Our mission is to fight the rising global food demand with food grown at your doorstep. Our high-tech and eco-friendly farming system surpasses current cultivation methods and allows to produce large-scale volumes of organic vegetables all around the year despite the weather or farmland conditions.

Our goal is to deliver a sustainable cultivation method that minimizes the current agricultural footprint while reducing cost as well as resource usage of energy, water and soil and to maximize crop yields.

Technology

The first fully automated indoor high pressure aeroponics (HPA) farming system for large-scale production of vegetables

Our closed-loop system uses natural resources such as sunlight, rain and mist, as well as captures external CO2 for optimized photosynthesis of plants. It enables the usage of non-arable land for farming and brings a whole new set of techniques and technology to even unexperienced users to boost the level of education of local workers and eventually contribute to shorten the delivery times of fresh products in developed economies and helps fight poverty, malnutrition and hunger in underdeveloped communities.

Energy

The disruptive lightning system combines natural light with latest smart-Light Emitting Diodes to save energy. During daytime, sunlight is efficiently trapped and condensed to facilitate optimal photosynthesis of plants. After sundown, LEDs  deliver the necessary light spectrum and frequency to each species for ideal growth.

Efficiency

All relevant parameters are controlled by smart sensors. Our software gathers all information, generating high-valuable crop insights to facilitate the control of all growth parameters. Each plant species receives an optimal combination of all parameters that eventually maximize crop yields based on real-time variable data.

Water

Our pesticides-free aeroponics nutrition delivery system is designed to optimize nutrient transport according to individual plant’s requirements enabling better root and plant development. The closed-looped irrigation system collects rainfall and recycles plants’ water resulting from evapotranspiration for an optimized water usage.

Green Factory

Sustainable and large-scale (~4,500 ton/year) cultivation method allowing to grow any crop, anywhere, throughout 365 days/year. The set-up of green factories is ideal for urban areas to provide communities with organic and eco-friendly food straight to the consumers table. It provides an ideal cultivation alternative for farmers, food manufacturers, wholesalers & supermarkets.

Green Shelter

Focused on the reduction of hunger and malnutrition in disadvantaged as well as rural non-farm economies, Green Shelters allow to produce ~4 Ton/year of valuable food to feed a whole small community. Green Shelters are robustly designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and to allow production in a closed-loop cycle following the circular economy paradigm.

Our Green Team

Like many great ideas, all started in the backyard in the outskirts of Madrid. Passion and a clear vision made us come up with ideas to finally develop Vertical Green.
